Can any smart thermostat work with a heat pump?
No. A heat pump needs a thermostat with an O/B reversing valve terminal and heat pump mode logic. A standard AC thermostat is not wired for that and can run the wrong mode. Ask the contractor which models they will warranty with your equipment. Heat Pro SD does not name a brand list.
Does SDG&E demand-response apply to a heat pump thermostat?
Ask SDG&E what, if anything, is open. Program names, credits, and compatible thermostats change. Heat Pro SD does not enroll you or promise credits. If a program exists, ask the contractor whether the thermostat they quote can enroll.
My new thermostat makes my heat pump run heat when I want cooling. What is wrong?
The O/B wire is likely set to the wrong polarity. Some heat pumps use O (cooling) and some use B (heating) for the reversing valve signal. The thermostat must be configured to match your equipment. The crew verifies this at installation.
